Workout Tips for Beginners

Fitness can be tough and starting from scratch can be intimidating. Walking into a new gym or fitness studio for the first time can send your head spinning with a million questions and emotions. Being a beginner doesn’t have to be hard though, making the decision to show up for yourself is the hardest part of the journey. So, we’ve put together some tips to make the rest a little easier for you.

1. Make Yourself Comfortable

Whether you’re new to working out all together or just haven’t done it in a while, it can feel awkward at first. It’s important to make yourself feel comfortable. Instead of squeezing into tight spandex opt for something that is comfortable to move in and makes you feel good. You should feel good about yourself and be able to move freely during your workout. If you are going to be looking for a new gym or studio choose one with a friendly, team like atmosphere where you can share in your accomplishments. BOARD30 believes in a supportive community with individual goals that feel carried by all.

2. Find a Friend

Having someone to support you in your fitness journey can make all the difference. Working out with a friend can make the workout so much more fun and enjoyable. You and your friend can hold each other accountable for your fitness goals and keep each other motivated. Plus who doesn’t like having some extra time to spend with their friends!

3. Get a Routine

Find a style of exercise that works for you and stick to it. It doesn’t have to be the same thing each day but set a routine for yourself of when and where you will work out. Having a schedule or routine will help you stick with it. Make a point to show up for yourself and soon it will become habit. At BOARD30 we offer a variety of classes at different times to accommodate for all schedules and help you get into your new routine.

4. Set Goals

Life is easier when you know where you’re going, so set a goal for yourself. It can be a weight loss goal, a goal to not get out breath running, or a more ambitious goal like getting a six-pack but having a goal will help keep you focused. Speak to the professionals around you, like your doctor or the trainers at your studio, to get help setting your goal. Having a clearly defined goal can help keep you motivated on your end results.

5. Get Started

Now that you know what you are working towards, where your going to do it, when, and who with you can get started. Getting started on your fitness can happen at any time, you don’t have to wait for a Monday or next week, start today. Even starting with a few stretches or a simple class can be a push in the right direction. Don’t be afraid to start where you are with what you have, it might be the start to a whole new you!
